Viral TikTok Cocktail Recipes: Yay or Nay?

We’ll be honest, our FYP (for you page) is pretty targeted these days. For a wine and spirits team, it’s not hard to imagine what the almighty TikTok algorithm blesses us with. We get colorful cocktails, luxury cabernet taste tests and only the occasional cringy lip-sync. But our latest scrolling obsession is #DrinkTok: the holy grail of viral cocktail trends.

Naturally, we couldn't resist sampling some of these comment-collecting concoctions, especially the more eccentric ones that featured unusual ingredients, nostalgic ‘90s flavors, disappearing candy, or even a playful twist on a famous oopsie cocktail. And our mission? To find the TikTok treasures.

Check out the 6 TikTok cocktail trends that got so much hype we had to try them for ourselves and, of course, share our after-sipping reviews.

Parmesan Espresso Martini

Yeeeeah, we admit it: we tried the viral espresso martini WITH Parmesan cheese. And if you’re like us, your first thought was, “That’s a real quick no.” But hang in there and give us a second to explain.

There are 5 essential taste elements (sweet, sour, salty, bitter & umami [savory]) that build your overall flavor experience, and this specialty cocktail hits. Them. All. Just think about the way espresso and mascarpone cheese make magic together in tiramisu. These seemingly opposing cocktail ingredients do the same thing, but in a martini glass. The freshly shaved Parm hits the savory element, the espresso lightens up the bitter at the back of your tongue and it’s all carried beautifully across your palate by the sweetness of the coffee liqueur. Somehow...it all works. We're not questioning it, and neither should you.

Before you peruse the recipe, check out the ASMR-friendly TikTok video featuring this taste twister.

The Recipe:

Place a martini glass in freezer to chill. Combine vodka, coffee liqueur and espresso in a shaker with ice. Shake it like a polaroid picture and then strain into the chilled glass. Garnish with freshly shaved Parmesan cheese.

Negroni Sbagliato with Prosecco

What started as an interview with actress Emma Zia D'Arcy (who plays on-screen dragon rider and heir to the Iron Throne in HBO’s hit series House of the Dragon) turned into a surprisingly sultry, viral TikTok sound with nearly 80K posts. The popular back-and-forth banter had everyone wanting to try Emma’s drink of choice - including us!

After sampling the Negroni Sbagliato with Prosecco, we found this fizzy drink to be like a slightly more bitter version of an Aperol Spritz. Which we (and the rest of the world, apparently) are all about. This drink is the perfect cocktail choice for those who already love Negronis, but want to sip on something a bit different and effervescent.

Emma sold this sound, so we obviously had to sip it and review it with those swoony eyebrows of theirs. Here's how you can make it at home:

The Recipe:

Add Campari and vermouth to a glass. Add ice and stir. Top with prosecco and garnish with an orange twist.

Drinking Disclaimer: It is required to say, “Oh! Stunning!” following the first sip.

Corona Sunrise

Who remembers the long-lost loaded Corona? Maybe from a fuzzy summer memory circa 2010? Us too...us too.

Well, TikTok has brough her back, but with a sweet, citrusy summertime vibe. Not only was this trending beer-tail super easy to make, but we found it to be really refreshing. It’s a perfect brunch drink if you don’t like mimosas and ideal for a day in the sun. TBH, even if you’re not a fan of Coronas, you’ll still really enjoy this drink – the combination of flavors works well together, and the sweet juice mellows the bitterness of the Corona.

Check out the video for yourself, we’ll leave the recipe below for you:

The Recipe:

Open a 12-ounce bottle of Corona and take a sip (tough work, we know) until the beer level reaches the top of the white label. Then, load up that bottle by adding the tequila, orange juice and grenadine. Garnish with a lime and get after it!

@abcfinewinespirits Sunday brunch just got a whole lot better! Try this VIRAL Hawaiian Mimosa. #tiktok #drinktok #viralcocktails #hawaiianmimosa #brunchcocktails ♬ original sound - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits

Hawaiian Mimosa

Them: What's this?

Us: A Hawaiian Mimosa.

Them: It’s an art project. Ok, I like it, Picasso!

No, but, for real – this trending mimosa layers beautifully and looks like a summer sunset. Beyond the colors, we found this sparkly cocktail to hit all those nostalgic beach vacation flavors. It is on the sweeter side, so we recommend it to those who already enjoy sugary cocktail options or as a one-and-done novelty cocktail to sip on while you lounge by the pool or kick off a summer weekend.

The Recipe:

Add prosecco, rum, pineapple juice and grenadine to a Champagne flute. That’s it – delicious!

Cotton Candy Margarita

We tripped getting to the comments on this one! Cotton candy and tequila?! We were curious to say the least, and this one gave us our most unexpected tasting experience.

Ahead of mixing, we thought we were in for a very sweet drink, but it was surprisingly well-balanced. The tequila does the heavy lifting to cut the sugar from the cotton candy and the lime juice gives it just the right amount of tartness. Out of all the trending cocktails we tried, this one was definitely the most fun to make. The disappearing act, the pour over and the pretty-in-pink aesthetic all give this Cotton Candy Margarita our seal of approval.

Watch the magic happen in the original TikTok video, then screenshot the how-to below:

The Recipe:

Add tequila, triple sec and lime juice to a shaker with ice. Pack a glass with cotton candy and pour mixture over top. Add ice. Top with soda water and garnish with a lime wedge.

Tito’s Kool-Aid Lemonade

The big man is back – with Tito’s! OH, YEAHHHHHH!

We loved this vodka-spiked lemonade for so many reasons. First, it tastes like a mix between a Jolly Rancher and Laffy Taffy (depending on what flavor of Kool-Aid you choose, obvi). It was sweet, but not unpleasantly sweet. The tartness of the lemonade shows up strong to help balance the cocktail. Second, this baby has batch cocktail written all over it. It’s extremely simple to make, which is ideal for summer outings or events. You can easily prepare the Tito’s bottle and stick it in a cooler or fridge right next to the lemonade or even make the whole cocktail in the bottle if you poured out (and used) some of the vodka ahead of time.

The TikTok Video & Recipe:

Add Kool-Aid to a bottle of Tito’s and shake. In a glass with ice, add 1 ½ ounces of premade flavored vodka and fill with lemonade.
