The Little-Known History of the Paper Plane Cocktail

Have you ever heard of a Paper Plane Cocktail? Well you're about to! The Paper Plane Cocktail is a modern classic born in the mid-2000s.

When faced with the challenge of crafting a new cocktail for the opening night of a chic bar in Chicago, Sam drew inspiration from the classic Last Word, a mix of equal parts gin, green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and fresh lime juice. Building upon this foundation, he crafted a variant using equal parts bourbon, lemon juice, Amaro, and Campari.

As the flavors came together, the Campari introduced a touch of bitterness that slightly detracted from the overall balance. Sam exchanged the Campari for Aperol, resulting in the Paper Plane cocktail we know and love today. This refined combination has since earned a special place in the hearts of cocktail enthusiasts around the world.
